Plus Ultra

It was in Paris 1889 at the World’s Fair that five of the foremost geniuses of their time got together to form a secret society they dubbed Plus Ultra. This meeting was said to have taken place atop the Eiffel Tower one night during the fair when Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, and Gustave Eiffel got together to plan out the destiny of how technology would be rolled out across the globe. It was essentially a committee that was formed to make sure that the technological advances of the time did not outpace the growth of society and then lead to it’s own destruction if not kept in check.

Plus Ultra is something that has garnered somewhat of a mythical status in modern times. A super secretive illuminati type organization that according Disney has a rather illustrious past and almost an unbelievable story. It’s been of particular interest since Donald Trump posed at Mar a Lago in front of the Plus Ultra tiles leading some to speculate that Trump himself might know of or be a part of the organization.

There is a lot of hit and miss information about Plus Ultra and what it actually is because no one really knows. What we do know is that Plus Ultra is a latin phase meaning “Further beyond” and is the national motto of Spain. It was taken to be because the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V used it as his personal motto during the time of his reign. To this day the Coat of Arms of Spain is graced with this motto on a ribbon that is around the Pillars of Hercules. The motto has continued to be used in Spain since the time of Charles V mostly in the form of various pieces of Hapsburg propaganda. It was used to encourage the Spanish to go beyond the Pillars of Hercules and expand outward and beyond into a new world. The motto is still used today in various places in Latin America and in pop-culture media.

Plus Ultra as we know it today takes from as an ARG for the Disney movie Tomorrowland. That is to say that is a clever mixture of reality and fiction. Much like this work as a whole. Meant to spark the imagination to think about what is possible. If you’ve enjoyed this topic go to their website and use these codes.
